In business since 1976, Rainbow Gardens dwarfs other nurseries with two sprawling stores offering “10 acres of gardening heaven” between them. Designed to recreate the experience of strolling through a park, the serene Bandera location (the template for the Thousand Oaks location) takes botanical browsing to a higher plane with seemingly endless rows of annuals, perennials, fruit trees, grape vines, succulents, rose bushes, fountains, garden statues, you name it. While its snaking trails, butterfly gardens, and calming water-wheel-equipped koi pond (home to a mammoth albino catfish) offer moments of zen, a focus on xeriscape, water-saving, and native plants with encyclopedic signs throughout make Rainbow Gardens a place of enlightenment.”
THANKS SAN ANTONIO for voting us your favorite nursery in the San Antonio Express News Reader’s Choice Awards for 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014! We have two five acre garden centers in San Antonio, Texas and have been serving South Texas since 1976. Through the years, we’ve developed these park-like sites into garden centers that offer more choices for the home gardener than any other garden centers in the region. Our professional staffs have decades of experience helping novice and master gardeners alike. We offer a diverse selection of plants and products that will make your garden experience complete.
Rainbow Gardens is passionate about plants. We specialize in low water, low maintenance plants. We offer adapted and native species that will work well in a wide variety of conditions. We also offer plants you may not find anywhere else, plants that will make your landscape unique and interesting. From designer daylilies to plants of the desert southwest, you will find it at Rainbow Gardens. Whether you want a home landscape that is easy to take care of or something out of the ordinary, we can help.
Our encyclopedic signs give our customers what they need to know for the care, culture, and placement of most of the plants we sell. Questions about light requirements, moisture needs, and soil modification are answered on each sign. Additional information like blooming characteristics, fall leaf color, and average landscape size are also included. Our antique rose signs give a brief history of the origin of the plant. Our herb signs offer some history and tips on typical uses for the plants.
A garden would not be complete without the personal touches that make it your own. We have fountains and garden art, glazed and unglazed pottery by the container load imported directly from the Far East, paving materials, truckloads of bagged mulches and tons of bulk stone. Whimsical gifts, wind chimes, birdhouses, birdfeeders, and so much more. We have a wide variety of organic and chemical solutions to keep your garden in great shape and we’ll tell you how to use these products for best results. Our staff has over 100 collective years of experience working at Rainbow Gardens! We care about you and your garden.
Stroll down our paved and crushed granite paths under the shade of century old live oaks and soak in the garden experience. Display gardens, educational signs, and helpful advice from our state-certified nursery professionals all contribute to your gardening success. Our vegetable and herb selection at our Thousand Oaks location can challenge and surpass all other San Antonio nurseries. Unique features at the Bandera Road store like our old mill, butterfly habitat, and enchanted gnome forest make gardening fun for the whole family. Children will love our colorful koi fish, demanding to be fed. We offer educational seminars at little to no cost for our customers at both of our locations.
