It’s Christmas time in old San Antone, but the weather just doesn’t agree.

Who wants to wear a hat and coat when leaves are still perched upon the trees?

We’re never sure this time of year what temperature will be in the air,

so best to dress in pieces that you can pull off layer by layer.

Some of us crave the cold, we want a chance to wear our boots.

A nip in the air is expected and desired when it’s time to see Santa suits.

But remember my friend, when winter comes we’ll probably end up grumbling and moaning.

We’ll wish to see and feel the sunshine once the icy winds start blowing.

It’s just our finicky nature, we usually want what we just don’t have.

Then once we have the reverse, we can’t remember why the other was bad.

So we may not be filling our mugs anytime soon with cocoa too hot to drink;

but we can enjoy our salvia, that’s still blooming purple, red, and pink.

The fall-blooming roses are still strutting their stuff, putting on a spectacular show;

and don’t you prefer an extended harvest of vegetables over shoveling a walkway of snow.

The breezy, sunshine-filled air makes it so pleasurable to be outside,

it’s a perfect time to finish projects that you can’t complete when the cold arrives.

Don’t bet on building a snowman or snow fort, this year on Christmas Day.

But you can build an ice cream cone and kick back in the sun, cause it seems it’s the San Antone way.

So, although it may seem hard to get in the spirit when you find yourself sweltering at noon,

just accept where we live, trade your scarves for some shorts, then whistle a Texas Christmas tune.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us at Rainbow Gardens!
