Groundcover junipers typically grow an average of 6″-12″ high and around 5′ wide. Remember that when it comes to groundcovers, they tend to grow slowly. The old adage is first year they sleep, second year they creep, and third year they leap!
Some of our favorite juniper groundcovers are: Blue Pacific (one of the best for our San Antonio area). This juniper has a gorgeous blue-green hue and spreads in a low, trailing fashion. It holds up well through the heat of summer and looks good while doing it. Another popular favorite is Blue Rug, which totes the same growing habit as Blue Pacific, but has more of a silvery-blue hue.
While we are focusing more on groundcovers, junipers also range in sizes from smaller more compact shrubs to taller varieties that could be used for privacy screens. The evergreen nature of junipers is a sought after quality for many homeowners in San Antonio that want to make sure they some ‘green’ through all seasons.
Growing Conditions for Junipers
